Lives in Zurich
After a bachelor's degree at the Beaux-arts de Brera (Milan) and a master's at ECAL, Caterina De Nicola developed her work, which she herself inscribes in a form of post-modern septicism. Spotted among the young artists living in Switzerland in recent years, both by the Lemaniana exhibition at the Centre d'art contemporain and by the Swiss Art Awards, she had a solo show at the Swiss Cultural Center in Milan in spring 2023.
Her practice of noise music draws on various sub-genres, characterized by fast, violent staccato rhythms, drone... She pushes the boundaries of the no-fi aesthetic to the extreme, favoring sonic abstraction and tangible experiences that allow individuals to engage with space on their own terms.
As a musician, Caterina De Nicola is a member of the Catmiao duo with clarinettist and noise musician Miao Zhao, and of TOBATT with trombonist and composer Axel Kolb. As a music producer and event organizer, she participates in Zurich's noise and experimental scene, and currently co-organizes the Malatang concert series with Miao Zhao.
