Installation version
Lara Dâmaso has recorded a track that evolves in this order: the bass drum reacts to the low voice, the hi-hat to the harmonics, the vocal fry, the snare drum to the high voice. The track is first amplified simultaneously by all three elements. When it reaches the guttural textures and harmonics, the bass drum begins to loop the first part of the recording - the low tones - while the hi-hat and snare continue to play the rest live. When the track reaches the high notes, the hi-hat begins to loop the guttural notes, and only the snare drum continues to play the high notes in real time. At this point, the track is divided into three parts, with each drum element "playing" its corresponding voice quality.
Performance by Lara Dâmaso with drummer Alex Lazaro
La Centrale, August 30, 2025 at 5 p.m.
Lara Dâmaso's performance explores the transformation and transmission of the voice through different resonant bodies and instruments. Her voice, broadcast live and looped, is transmitted to transducers attached to a drum kit: each element reacts to a specific range of the vocal spectrum (bass drum for lows, snare drum for highs, hi-hat for overtones). Drummer Alex Lazaro intervenes simultaneously, creating a lively dialogue between voice and percussion that blurs the boundaries between instrument and performer.

Lara Dâmaso's practice combines performance, song, video, and installation. She explores the interactions between bodies, voices, and collective emotions, often through the prism of feminism, memory, and ritual. Her work draws on oral tradition, everyday gestures, and vocal techniques to create immersive experiences. She is particularly interested in the voice as a vector of resistance, healing, and transformation. Recognized on the European art scene, she develops a committed, sensitive, and political practice, where the body becomes an archive, living matter, and space of resonance.
