Musical performance at Notre_Dame Cathedral, Sion
With Sisters! Winter Family extends the musical and textual performances conceived in situ for churches, including the Brothers series, to Notre-Dame de Sion Cathedral. The experiment began in 2006 in the Church of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary in Paris, as part of the programming imagined by Maxime Guitton under the name Ali-fib. Borrowing the form of a secular service, these performances, featuring Xavier Klaine at the organ while Ruth Rosenthal chanted texts in various languages including Hebrew, have since been performed in New York, Jerusalem, Bologna and elsewhere.
Duo formed in 2004 by Ruth Rosenthal and Xavier Klaine
Based in Paris and Detroit
The Jerusalem and Lotharingia-born duo of Ruth Rosenthal and Xavier Klaine develops a unique universe, alternating synthetic punk firebrands and drone orations of a society on the brink of collapse. Produced by the labels Sub Rosa, Ici d'Ailleurs, and Murailles, they forge a unique path by defending a radical discourse conscious of its contradictions and perform around the world in clubs, galleries, and churches, producing minimal, dark, political, and abrasive music, somewhere between enchantment, chaos, and melancholy. Winter Family also creates documentary plays produced by European theaters such as the Vidy Theater in Lausanne, Vooruit Gent, TNB Rennes, MC93, and the ABC Culture Center in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Their daughter Saralei sometimes plays with them.
