Living Tower is a sound performance by trans-disciplinary artist Christophe Burgess, who has been in charge of Martigny's carillon since 2024. This in situ work blends the traditional gesture of the carillonneur with contemporary technologies to make the city's carillon resonate in an unexpected way. Normally a symbol of order and time, the bells here become an instrument of phase shift and chaos, distorting time and sacred architecture.
Living Tower is part of the "Alpine Punk" series, the science fiction sub-genre that seeks to answer the question: What desirable futures do we want to dream of in the Alps?
