A collection of short audio pieces linked to books published by Héros-Limite

Since 2021, Éditions Héros-Limite has been building a collection of short audio pieces linked to published works. Sound artists are invited to create 15 to 25-minute vignettes. Free immersion in poetry, literature, essays and life stories. A room in a book, sometimes in complicity with its author. It's a cinema for the ears in a very singular editorial field.

This catalog can be found in libraries, cinemas, theaters, literary and sound arts festivals. It leaves the digital realm to offer public, intimate or shared listening experiences. For Biennale Son, you can read with your eyes closed at La Centrale, Fondation Opale and Musée valaisan des Bisses.

Éditions Héros-Limite

In 2021, Les éditions Héros-Limite launched the "Un cinéma pour les oreilles" project. A program of sound pieces born during the first confinement, when the book chain was interrupted. The idea was to invite artists to compose original sound creations inspired by the works published by the publishing house.

Much more than a simple recording, the sound artist appropriates an author's universe to create a new work, an artistic creation, where the arrangement and montage of words and sounds combine with the text. These radio creations have begun to be broadcast monthly on the publishing house's website.

The development of this project gave rise to the Pavillons d'écoute. These original objects were commissioned by éditions Héros-Limite from sound installation designer Rudy Decelière in 2023. The artist designed three listening stations in collaboration with Gaia Biaggi, the publisher's graphic designer. Taking the form of a desk lamp with headphones, they feature buttons for selecting the sound piece the listener wishes to hear. They are also fitted with an external loudspeaker - in place of the bulb - giving free rein to listening in space. These horns allow the Cinéma pour les oreilles sound pieces to travel outside the virtual world of the Internet. Produced by hand using raw materials, they are highly distinctive and perfectly in keeping with the spirit of our publishing house. The Pavillons d'écoute were inaugurated at the 2023 edition of the Fureur de lire in Geneva.
